Ares I and Ares V to replace Space Shuttle fleet
NASA has finally named the vehicles that would replace the aging Space Shuttle fleet and would continue the space missions.
The new crafts would be named Ares I and Ares V based on the Greek name for Mars. Ares was chosen over hundreds of other proposed names by the US based space agency.
NASA exploration Chief Scott Horowitz said at a Cape Canaveral news conference on this announcement: “Ares is a name that is used to refer to Mars, and it connects to our vision to go to the moon and onto Mars.”
NASA is yet to name the crew capsule. The first flights of these new crafts can take place as early as 2009 as they finally aim to retire the entire Space Shuttle fleet which has become a security concern for the engineers at the space agency.
