Taiwanese tech giants BenQ have confirmed that they would be launching a Blu-Ray writer drive in the month of August this year. The company is more popularly known for their mobile and computing products.
BenQ plans to sell it for around USD 1000 when it hits the market. This is much lower than the expected pricing of USD 1500 for competing players from other hardware companies in the market. Sony, Philips and Pioneer are other companies making products based on the Blu-Ray format.
BenQ BW1000 would be able to write discs in three formats. CD, DVD and Blu-Ray formats would be supported. And it would support both single and double-layer Blu-ray discs. This means users can store up to 50 gigs of data on a single disc using this Blu-Ray writer.
Pioneer has already launched a Blu-Ray player named BDR-101A in the market though it does not support double-layer discs.
