| Platinum Member | It is official. Toshiba, the main force behind HD-DVD, has said it will stop making its high definition DVDs, ending a battle with rival format Blu-ray over which would be the industry standard. Story here: BBC NEWS | Business | Toshiba drops out of HD DVD war At last we can now jump into the 'buy' decision. I really did not care much as who won the war. I am glad the issue is now settled.

| Platinum Member | Blu-Ray players (and BD-DVD) are still expensive. In US, a typical player costs $399 + tax and movies cost $29 + tax. In comparison: DVD players: $75 to $150 DVD movies: New releases - $20 and then they fall to $15, $12, $10 and for "not so hit" movies to as low as $5. I hope the prices turn south bound soon. |
