Airbus plans to develop an enhanced version of A320 from 2009
European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is rumored to be considering relaunching its A320 passenger jets in the year 2009 with an enhanced updated version.
This was stated in a report published by German magazine Wirtschaftswoche. As per this report, the operating costs of the new jets with the working title A320 Enhanced would be five percent below those of the current A320s.
Airbus plans to improve this by enhancing the air resistance and reducing the weight of the aircraft. In addition, they plan to use more efficient engines. The Airbus A320 is currently due for deliveries from next year.
The company is already facing a lot of criticism for the recently announced delays in the deliveries of its superjumbo A380 aircraft and they cannot afford to give rivals Boeing any more space. They have to be innovating and much more aggressive in product development in the future.
