Nokia to be probed for possible Qualcomm patent infringements
Mobile technology developers Qualcomm has said in a statement that the U.S. International Trade Commission is now investigating whether mobile phone maker Nokia engaged in unfair trading practices by importing and selling mobile phones infringing on their patented technologies.
Qualcomm and Nokia have long been fighting legal battles with each other and this case is the just the latest in the series. Qualcomm had filed their complaint with the ITC on June 9 and they are asking the agency to block sales of certain Nokia products in the country, which infringes on their patents.
Nokia has said that they are aware of this new development. The company said in a statement: “We will cooperate fully with the ITC and we believe that the filing by Qualcomm is without merit. We have received no offer from Qualcomm that was on fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory terms.”
Nokia had earlier said that the patents in question are covered by a prior license agreement. Incidentally, Nokia is one of the six companies who have together filed an anti-competitiveness complaint with European regulators against Qualcomm’s licensing practices.
