Rep Power: 13 | France to provide cheap computers to lower-income group citizens The French government is aiming to get more people to get connected to the internet. They are planning to launch a scheme, which would see them offering low-income households a computer, home training and a high-speed Internet connection. The people coming under this scheme could be charged as little as one euro a day for three years. France has almost half of their homes having a personal computer. And around 13.3 million of the 60 million population is connected to the internet. The government is aiming this planned scheme at pensioners and the unemployed. Cheap access to the internet would help them to fill out official forms saving money for the government in the longer run. This new initiative can begin as soon as early next year and would also see the involvement of the private sector. |
