EU continues to pressurize mobile firms to reduce roaming charges
The European Commission has now revealed their plans to get the mobile service providers in the region to slash sky-high costs for making mobile phone calls abroad.
This decision has received massive criticism from the mobile industry as they already face falling profits due to massive competition in the region.
The mobile service providers in the region have already announced their aim of reducing these roaming charges by almost half.
EU’s Information Society and Media Commissioner Viviane Reding said in a statement: “For years, mobile roaming charges have remained at unjustifiably high levels, in spite of repeated warnings to the industry. This is why Europe needs to act now.”
The commission now plans to give the mobile service providers around six months to take action themselves before facing enforced measures.
