RD-A1: delays the launch of HD DVD recorder
Japanese tech giants Toshiba has announced that they are delaying the launch of the world’s first HD DVD recorder due to delays in production.
This is just the latest in the series of delays reported by the hardware manufacturers in the next generation storage media market. Both HD DVD and Blu-Ray backers have reported delays in the launch of players and recorders due to problems in bulk productions of these devices.
Toshiba was due to launch their RD-A1 today but the launch is now postponed to July 27.
The company said that the problem is in securing some parts for the recorder and they still do not have enough units for a nationwide launch.
Toshiba RD-A1 combines an HD DVD burner with a one-terabyte hard disk. It has a capacity of recording and storing up to 130 hours of high-definition broadcasts.
The market already has several players, which can play HD DVD discs. However, this device was supposed to be the first one of its kind in the market to offer recording facility on HD DVD discs.
