MySpace.com to spend big on an online safety campaign
MySpace.com is making news for all the wrong reasons. The world’s most popular internet social networking portal is becoming a subject of online criticism after reports of child abuse and molestation connected to the users of the website.
News Corp, owners of this online network are using help of the TV star Kiefer Sutherland, who plays Jack Bauer on the Fox action drama “24”. He refers to his character in the show saying: “On TV Jack Bauer has 24 hours to make the world safe. In real life, it only takes a few minutes to do the same for our kids. To protect them you don’t need the latest state-of-the-art technology. You just need a few simple tips: Don’t let them run into trouble on the Internet — use common sense.”
It also advices the users to checkout the online website CommonSense.com which is managed by a nonprofit group Common Sense Media. This group monitors and reviews media and entertainment for parents. They provide information on how people can live a safe online life.
The company is currently facing lawsuit from a user who claims that the online portal lead to her sexually assault. They are also being pressurized by the various government bodies to do more on the safety front.
