Rep Power: 12 | BBC to telecast World Cup and Wimbledon in HDTV UK based media group BBC would be screening this year’s football World Cup and Wimbledon championships in High-definition television format. BBC plans to continue testing this feature programming for around a year’s period. HDTV technology provides more detailed pictures and sharper action shots. BBC would be broadcasting it through an additional stream to the current analogue and digital services. It would as a result would only work for viewers owning a HD-enabled television sets, set-top boxes, and relevant services via satellite and cable distributors. Roger Mosey, the BBC’s director of sport spoke about this technology: “It gives fantastic picture quality, from the blades of grass that are being played on right to the back of the stands.” They are aiming to test out the technology, which is expected to become a standard in the coming years. |
