Default Apple might use Woodcrest processors in future Pro range of Mac products

Rumors in the market suggests that Apple Computers is considering using the latest range of 64-bit Intel Xeon (Woodcrest) processors in their Pro range of Mac computers.

If this is true, Apple might be able to make their Mac Pro desktops to be some of the fastest and most powerful desktop computers available in the market.

These new processors mark a new beginning for Intel as they take the initiative back from smaller rivals AMD. Instead of depending upon the GHz speeds, they are now concentrating on providing faster chips, which consume less and less power.

Intel’s latest Xeon range of processors top out at 3.0GHz on a 1333MHz FSB. These processors use “Smart Memory Access” which automatically works around memory bottlenecks and lags. Another feature named “Advanced Smart Cache” allows one processor to use all the memory if the other processor is idle. In addition, “Wide Dynamic Execution” allows more instructions per cycle.

Experts believe that Apple would be more than interested in picking up the two dual-core 2.66GHz Xeons into their Mac Pro range of computers. And these might be showcased along with the upcoming Mac OS X updated named Leopard at the upcoming WWDC.
