Laptop Flash Drives faces major problems According to survey of Avian, solid state drives (SSDs) are facing major performance issues as of which they are being returned to their manufacturers at an alarming rate of 20-30 percent of the total manufactured units.
As per reports, Flash-based SSDs are having 10-20 percent return due to technical failure which is 10 times more than older disk based drives. Another 10 percent return are due to lack of expected performance.
Many major laptop manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo, Apple and Sony who offer SSDs laptop are highly promoting the new flash-based SSDs with tags justifying them as light, fast and silent. These SSD laptops are significantly are costly than conventional laptops but are not getting any good response from buyers.
Dell admits that they are having problem with SSD laptops, but defended it by saying that SSD is a new technology and in the starting it may have some draw backs but all of these drawbacks are soon fading away and as the technology becomes more widely used it will also become more cheaper.
As major laptops manufacturers are pushing this new technology it looks like it may take over the older disk based hard drives in future, but at present this new technology is facing big problems which need to be tackled to make this into reality. |
