GE Commercial Aviation buys 30 jets from Boeing
The World’s largest aircraft lessor, GE Commercial Aviation has confirmed that they are acquiring as many as 30 of Boeing Co.’s single-aisle 737 passenger jets. This order is worth around $2 billion at list prices.
GECAS is the unit of GE Commercial Aviation, which has placed this confirmed order with Boeing. These planes would be delivered beginning from 2008 and would take two years. The company has also taken an option to buy another 30 planes if it so desires.
This is just the latest such order placed by GECAS which has been enjoying increasing demand for their services in growing aviation markets like China and India. GECAS Chief Executive Henry Hubschman said in a statement: “It is a very popular aircraft model and we quickly leased all of the planes we ordered last year, so we needed more to satisfy our customers’ demand.”
GECAS had earlier ordered 26 of the planes last year and identified itself as the buyer of another 12, which had been ordered in 2004.
