Rep Power: 3 | Retailing industry giant Wal-Mart has said that they are going to test digital movie download service by offering buyers of the “Superman Returns” DVD a chance to acquire a downloadable version as well. Wal-Mart said that customers would have an option of paying $1.97 for a version compatible with portable digital movie players like the Apple iPod Video and Microsoft Zune. Customers can also pay $2.97 to get a version for downloading on a PC or a Mac. A combo offer supporting both these platforms is available for $3.97. Kevin Swint, Wal-Mart’s divisional merchandise manager for digital media said in a statement on this new development: “This unique Superman Returns physical/digital DVD combination not only marks our first step into the video downloads market, but gives our customers the best of both worlds in movie entertainment. They have the DVD as a collectible and for viewing on their home theaters, plus the freedom to download and watch the movie on multiple devices.” Wal-Mart is also considering expanding this offer on other DVD bundles in the coming months. |
