Default General Motors might develop a compact car for the emerging markets

US based automaker General Motors has said that they are considering building an inexpensive compact car for the emerging auto markets. This car could be sold for less than $10,000 in these markets and it would be a concept similar to Renault Logan, which is due to be launched in the Indian market.

Nick Reilly, GM’s president of Asia-Pacific said in a statement that the target markets for this car would be countries like India, China and some nations in Eastern Europe.

They could also possibly collaborate with partners that could provide engineering, production and distribution at rock-bottom cost. GM already has an effective subsidiary in Daewoo, which can develop such a product.

Logan has been a huge success for Renault and they are now going to emulate the same success in the Indian market. GM has big plans for India and they are aiming for a 10% market share in this market by the end of the current decade.
