Retailing company Best Buy Co. has said that they would test launch some stores selling just mobile phones. They are partnering with U.K. retailer Carphone Warehouse for this initiative.

Best Buy would be opening these stores at nine locations in Manhattan. These stores would be called Best Buy Mobile and they would showcase cell phones from manufacturers like Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.

Customers would also be given the option to choose their choice of mobile service providers from Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, and others.

David Sprosty, chief executive officer of Best Buy Mobile added in a statement: “What we’ve seen over time is no one out there offering customers both choice and service in one location. Our hypothesis is that by offering the level of care that they get from a carrier store with a better choice of phones, ultimately we can create something that will hopefully meet the needs of the customer that are underserved today.”
