Rep Power: 3 | Walt Disney recently acquired the animation movie company Pixar and now they have announced their decision to cut jobs at their own animation unit. The company plans to cut 20 percent of the 800 jobs at its animation unit, which comes to around 160 job cuts. However, Pixar which itself has around 800 employees at its Emeryville, California, campus would not see any job cuts. Market analysts said that this is due to the fact that Disney has failed to impress the audiences when compared to Pixar and they are going to rely more on the Pixar workforce. Disney is now going to start telling their employees starting December 11 whether they can continue in the company or not. Employees losing their jobs will receive 60 days’ notice. Disney had earlier said this year that they aim to save $100 million a year by cutting 650 film division jobs at its live-action studio. |
