Default Qualcomm to acquire Bluetooth assets from RF Micro Devices

RF Micro Devices specializes in making chips for cellphones and wireless networking devices. The company has now said that they are selling off their Bluetooth assets to Qualcomm for around US$39 million. The deal would be conducted in a cash only transaction.

RF Micro added that this would help them concentrate on its highest-growth wireless ventures. They manufacture cellular transceivers, global positioning system components and wireless local area network power amplifiers.

Qualcomm would now be acquiring majority of RF Micro’s Bluetooth assets related to the SiW1722 and RF4000 series. However, RF would continue to sell its SiW3000, SiW3500, SiW1712 and SiW1721 Bluetooth products.

RF Micro president and CEO Bob Bruggeworth said in a statement on this deal with Qualcomm: “The sale of these Bluetooth assets to Qualcomm will enable RFMD to accelerate its expansion into new markets while streamlining its world-class cost structure.”
