Rep Power: 10 | Rising fuel prices leads to increase in airline tickets in the US As many as Six of the largest U.S. airlines have increased some of the fares by as much as USD 50 to counter the effect of rising fuel prices. These prices are applied on tickets for both the ways. With this rise in ticket prices, the airline companies are trying to offset record spending on jet fuel and return the industry to profit. Delta Air Lines has increased the prices of tickets of the U.S. first-class and last minute coach tickets. Continental Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Northwest Airlines Corp. and US Airways Group followed soon after that news was revealed. Southwest Airlines is the only top airline company in the region to not raise the prices of the tickets yet. The prices of aviation fuel are rising at the fastest pace since 2001 and this has increased the cost of operations for these companies. The industry has just managed to come out of the bad phase after the unfortunate 911 attacks and rising fuel prices is not helping their efforts to stay profitable. |
