United Breweries Group to acquire Bouvet-Ladubay from Taittinger
Vijay Mallya owned India’s biggest distiller, United Breweries Group has said that they would be acquiring the winemaker Bouvet-Ladubay.
Bouvet-Ladubay is one of the subsidiaries of the French champagne group Taittinger. The deal is worth around USD 15 million.
Mallya said in a statement to the media on this new development: “We are looking to acquire this company over the next few weeks. It will enable United Breweries to get into high quality premium wine, which we will import and sell in (the) Indian market. It will also give us access to wine technology of the highest order.”
He added that the technology acquired through this acquisition would be used to develop Indian vineyards. The company had earlier tried to bid for the parent company Taittinger but was out-bided by French regional bank Credit Agricole du Nord Est.
