Indian automaker Tata Motors has said that they are planning to launch a passenger version of ‘Tata Ace’.

Tata Ace is the smallest commercial vehicle in the company’s portfolio and the passenger version is expected to come with a soft top.

The company said: “We are hoping that the vehicle will be ready next year.” this vehicle is expected to be primarily targeted at the rural markets.

This would be another addition to the segment, which already has a rural transport vehicle branded RTV from Hindustan Motors.

In other news, Tata Motors said that they are looking at a target of selling 100,000 Ace vehicles during 2006-07. They have already sold more than 42,000 units since its launch in May last year.

Prem K Verma, head (sales & marketing, LCV and SCV) spoke on their plans: “We currently have a capacity of 60,000 per year of Ace in Pune plant. The company has already decided to set up another production facility at Panthnagar in Uttaranchal for Ace.”
