Thread: 1 Gbps fibre-optic in Japan for Rs 2600 a month

Just some mind-boggling news I wanted to share.

TOKYO —

KDDI Corp will launch a fiber-optic communications service with upload and download speeds each of up to one gigabit per second on Oct 1. The new service will target people living in single-family homes and low-rise apartment buildings. The traffic speeds will be the fastest in eastern Japan, up drastically from the current 100 megabits per second.

With the service, KDDI aims to catch up with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp, which has a share of over 70% in the market for fiber-optic broadband services for single-family houses.

KDDI will charge 5,985 yen in basic monthly fees for Internet and telephone services, down 1,155 yen from the current price, if a user subscribes for two consecutive years.

KDDI will start offering its fiber-optic services, which are now available only in six prefectures in the Kanto region and nearby Yamanashi Prefecture, in four cities in the northern prefecture of Hokkaido.

i.e. 1Gbps = 4096 times the speed of a 256Kbps connection

Looks like Japan is way ahead of the world in developing new hardware services.I had never seen or imagined such a high speed.

come on guy,
reliance, tata , Airtel improve ur infrastructure.

It will take some time.....Rome was not built in a Day.

Also Japan has the advantage of a small land area so it's not so expensive for them to run fiber optic.

Can we expect such a speed in India... at low prices

wow, that would be soooooooo great if it ever did come to India.

But i guess the only thing we could do is probably download 100 movies per day (!) provided we get 2-8 AM Free(lol) and ya if we can afford the plan...

And then if ur hdd crashes , u would call up ur buddy and say " hey dude , come online I wanna copy ur hdd , jus movies and the software and.... y not d gamez also.. oh jeez i forgot d pictures (as if i can sleep without seeing my gf picx).. ok.."
