There lies the versatility of Nokia. If it can manufacture phones like Nokia N97 or Nokia E91, it at the same time can manufacture phones like Nokia 1661 for common man who cannot afford to waste large sums of money but still need the phones to remain in contact with people. The new Nokia 1661 announced in November 2008 is expected to hit the market soon. This low end phone is equipped with no advanced features expect, some basic features in it. The di-band phone runs on 2G network of 900/1800 only.

Nokia 1661 measures 108 x 45 x 13.8 mm and weighs 82 g only. The 1.8 inches screen is quite large but of no use when it is without any video or camera capabilities. But the wall paper fits the screen quite well with 65K colors and 128 x 160 pixels of resolution. The phone is equipped with themes and wall papers. The only mode of entertainment in this phone is an FM radio with stereo facility.

Nokia 1661 is loaded with 32 channels of polyphonic ringtones but no Mp3 ringtones. There is customization of downloading ringtones from the service provider. There is no facility for web access, entertainment of multimedia or camera features in this phone. The internal memory of the phone is capable of keeping 500 entries to phone book and 20 received, dialed and missed calls. There is no card slot to extend the memory. The internal memory can keep 250 messages in its memory.

Nokia 1661 features SMS only with no email or others. There are pre-installed games from the brand and the phone is available in two colors – grey and black. The phone features flashlight, FM radio, T9, Calendar, currency converter, battery, stand by time of 600+ hours and talk-time of 8 hours only.
