    Default do GPS needs a gprs connection compulasry?

    well i recently got nokia e71. i m new to this GPS feature.. basicas i know but can anyone tell me for GPS data transfer needs to be compulsary by gprs from network? i mean cant i usee my wifi connection as for data transfer? and is it like for GPS i need connection? like India map is already there saved in the phone.. can i just see n navigate it or for tht internet ot gprs is necessary? how can i search places in India using GPS? i tried all means n options in it like walk n drive but what if i wanna search a place n way to a particular place say a coffeday near by? it always comes no data or u r offline go to tools turn online.. but m not able to do so.. how can i use my home wifi to do it? where to change the settings for it? i wanna make all my net connections whether surfing net to GPS it should use only my wifi .. so pl answer my questtion as much as u can... thanks ..

    I am not familiar with your particular phone but GPS technology
    does not depend on the cellphone technology. They are independent.
    GPS gets its signals from satellites and uses triangulation to
    determine your location. The GPS receivers should have the
    mapping software and routing software if it is supported for your
    area.

    well phone model is nokia e71 and its like gps is globally.. i dont think we have to see whether its something available in particular area as its based on satellites.. rest lets see n wait for e71 users..

    GPS & GPRS are independent. GPS works through satellite while GPRS through your service provider

    You don't need GPRS (Internet) for GPS technology to work. You only need GPRS to update Maps. And also to get some up-to-date details.

    yes thought so but i m just getting error message telling its offline.. make it online.. even i use wifi its same.. wat to do? should i bang my fone once or twice ?? may be some internal problem.. gets fixed :lol:

    No idea about such phones. Did you checked the User's Manual & Help Menu ?

    wifi u can use directly, just connect with a wifi and active ur nokia maps, GPS&GPRS are totally different, gps work through satellite but gprs thrgh ur service provider..
