Default HTTP timeout issue while activating N-Gage games

HTTP timeout issue while activating N-Gage games

I bought this Nokia N79 last week. The phone comes with 15 preloaded n-gage games. All trail version. They also gave the activation code to activate the games to full version.

Its requires GPRS/3G/WLAN in the phone to activate the games. Iam using vodafone connection & iam also having the GPRS connection (Vodafone Live). When I try activating the game,I get a error message "HTTP timeout". & iam not able to activate none of the games. This is the n-gage settings: Settings-->Connections-->Access Point-->Vodafone Line.

    Kindly help me out.

Are you using the default WAP Browser or a 3rd party one (eg: Opera mini) ?
Can you connect any other services (applications) to Internet ?

I cannot use any 3rd party application with Vodafone. That's why I asked. If other applications are working then there is no problem with connection.

Did you set Access Point for application too (like you do for WAP browser) ?

May be it is happening because u are using wap(voda live) to activate(connect to the ngage server). Do u have any proper gprs connection set up in ur phone except voda live(wap)? if u use that to activate, it might just work. So, u can call voda cc to recieve ur gprs settings and then use it as default access point for n-gage application.

I m not familiar with such advanced phones so pardon me if I m wrong in my assumption.

Try connecting using the eifi connectivity if it has it or else give the nokia pc suit a try if its got any options to activate applications using the net connection from your PC... Its just my wild guess as I have never used nokia pc suit for anything like that.

After rameshjeee created this thread, i have done some research on this. The answer i came up with is, he has got to use gprs gateway to activate using the ngage application. connecting via pc wont help cause it wont verify his particular mobile.
    do give feedback mr. jeee

thats exactly what i said. U can access voda live from any cell phone which still has not activated its GPRS status. voda live is probably acting through wap not gprs. have u called the cc and asked for gprs settings ??? tell em u dnt want to use voda live, ask for proper gprs settings.

What do you mean by proper GPRS ?

Vodafone have 2 Internet services. Vodafone Live & Vodafone Connect.

    Vodafone live

For prepaid: 10 paise, per 10 KB data transfer & no monthly rent.

    Vodafone Connect

For prepaid: 5 ps, per 10 KB data transfer & Rs 199 monthly rent.

Vodafone's Internet service is not very good. But Vodafone Live is handy to have, because of no rent.

by proper I meant the settings received upon manual activation of Voda gprs service on ur number. voda live uses wap gateway to communicate and it is known to be associated with this issue.

    @rameshjeee

    have u contacted cc ?

    No MTNL in Kerala.
All the Mobile Service Providers have same tariff plans and services. Only thing different is the signal range, which is better for Vodafone & Airtel.

I have tried contacting Customer Care. Via phone & Email. But they didn't reply.

PS. I don't think Vodafone actually has GPRS connectivity for Vodafone Live plan. For GPRS maybe you need to use Vodafone Connect.

GPRS is like dial-up - vey slow. That is why you are getting the time out. Use wi-fi as suggested by Admin.

    DITTO.

there is another solution though. tell the threadstarter to get an Airtel sim and activate those games with airtel gprs. its bound to work cause they have a perfect gprs plan with settings and all (unlike voda-phoney ).

And I have confirmed from several of my friends who have done this with their N-series Ngage application.

I activated 1 game through Wi-Fi. But I couldn't activate other games as I was getting a new error message "This way of activating license key is not allowed"...

When I tried activating using GPRS, i was getting the same error message.

All the above I did in my friend's home.
When I came back to my home & again tried activating using GPRS, i was getting the old error message "HTTP timeout".
