Default Nokia 3110 problem

i bought Nokia 3110 classic in last november. after using for few days i am facing a weird problem, i set my ringtone & sms tone to a custom tone which is stored in my memory card. Now some times it happens that the ringtone & sms tone changes to default nokia tone automatically (not changing the profile or removing the memory card). does any one knows why this things happens & is there any solution for this.

N3110 is known to be a troublesome phone. Have u tried taking it to the Nokia centre ? What was their explanation? Maybe a firmware update might fix it.

Please standby for further suggestions from board members. Some may have experienced the same with the phone and may respond to it. If no replies, then Nokia Care is the last hope..

Friends i too have nokia 3110 c and got such errors...i wrote an email regarding this to Nokia and this is their reply...however, the written way is not applying on me...

Thank you for e-mailing Nokia Care.

This e-mail is in reference to the functionality of Nokia 3110 Classic. We regret the inconvenience caused. We request you to follow the below mentioned instructions in order to 'Restore the Factory Settings' to rectify the concern.
Select Menu > Settings >Restore factory settings > Phone prompts for security code > the default security code for all Nokia handsets is 12345. In an event you have changed the security code, kindly key in the code assigned by you.

You may kindly note that, on restoring the phone to original factory settings, all your phone settings such as Themes, Wallpapers and other phone settings will get reset to original/factory conditions. However, the files in Gallery, Contacts, Calendars Notes and Applications/Games installed in the phone would remain intact.

Further, we request you to switch off your phone, remove the battery and leave the phone idle for a couple of minutes. Insert the battery and switch on the phone and check if the concern is resolved.

Also, we suggest you to upgrade the phone firmware and validate if the concern persists. You may kindly note that you can check the latest software version available for your phone by visiting the below mentioned web link:

Nokia - Check your software - Device software update

Once the web page is open, please enter the product code of your phone in the specified space. The latest software version will be displayed. In case there is a new version available, you can use the 'Nokia Software Updater' to upgrade the phone software.

We request you to visit the web link mentioned below to upgrade the firmware of your handset Nokia 3110 Classic using Nokia Software Updater:

Nokia India - Download - Device software update - Download software - Get support and software

Please read the FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) section on the above mentioned web link before upgrading the firmware of your phone.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to update your phone software, also known as firmware, for your Nokia phone.

Step 1/5: Get Started

Before you start, make sure you have met these requirements:

To install and run Nokia Software Updater application:
1. 1GHz, or higher, Pentium-compatible processor
2. At least 256 MB of RAM (memory)
3. Windows XP , or Windows Vista
4. Administrator rights to install
5. High-speed internet connection

To connect your phone to a PC:
1. Fully charged, compatible Nokia phone
2. Compatible Nokia USB connection cable
3. Compatible USB port on your PC

Step 2/5: Back-up data

Personal data such as contacts, photos and messages stored in the phone memory will be deleted during phone software update. It is strongly recommended that you backup this data to your memory card before updating your phone software.

To backup to your memory card:
1. Select Tools > Memory from the main menu
2. Select Options > Backup phone memory.

To restore info to phone memory:
1. Select Tools > Memory from the main menu
2. Select Options > Restore from card

Step 3/5: Download Nokia Software Updater

Download the Nokia Software Updater installation file below.
1. If you are using Internet Explorer, select Run from the dialog box that appears.
2. If you are using Firefox, select Save to disk and click OK.

Step 4/5: Install Nokia Software Updater

Click the Nokia Software Updater Setup icon (saved on your desktop or in another specified folder) to open the install wizard, which will guide you through the installation process.

After installing you can update your phone software.

Note: Nokia Software Updater PC software only needs to be installed once, after which it can be used each time you check for available firmware updates.

Step 5/5: Check for firmware updates

Connect your phone to your PC via Nokia cable.

The Nokia Software Updater will guide you through the phone software update process.

Repeat Step 5 every time you check for phone software updates.

Alternatively, we suggest you to take the phone to the nearest Nokia Care Centre. Our technicians will upgrade the firmware version of your mobile phone to the latest version free of cost, provided it meets the Nokia warranty guidelines. Also, when the firmware of the phone is flashed, all data in the phone would be lost.

We suggest you to follow all the above mentioned instructions and in case the concern persists, we request you to take your phone to the nearest Nokia Care Centre. Our technicians will assist you in the best possible way.

We recommend you take along the proof of purchase/receipt while visiting the Nokia Care Centre. Your phone would be repaired under warranty if it meets all the warranty guidelines.

For location of the Nokia Care Centres nearest to you, kindly access the following web link:

Nokia India - Care center locator - Repair & recycle - Get support and software

Moving the song to the phone memory will also induce the same error. Have seen it in my N3110c.

I would suggest to keep away from this phone at all costs. The phone also suffers frequent restarting when the memory card is loaded (say 700MB+ is filled on a 1GB card).

Firmware flashing isnt helping it either.

the problem is not only with 3110. this happens with my n73me also .. but rarely. this is a generic problem with most symbian phones. sometimes during a incoming call/sms, if there is a delay in reading the memory card for the set ringtone ... the default tone is played ... the coz of this delay is not known to me either.
