Default nokia 6300

The nokia 6300 has been around for a while. It was launched way back in January 2007. Since then it has managed to get its fair share of fanboys.
Design
Nokia 6300 has followed other competing cell phones and slimmed down. It’s design is contemporary and will appeal to most people, youth or otherwise. It’s frame is made entirely of metal, which while adding to it’s looks also makes it quite sturdy. I have dropped it hard twice and it is still functioning perfectly. One might argue that that’s true for all nokia phones. The front side of the phone consists a gorgeous 16 million color vibrant TFT display. Photos look stunning and quite literally pop out. It is perfectly legible under direct sunlight. The keypad is entirely metal and feels good in your hands. The tactile feedback is great and you won’t have any problems with messaging. The right edge of the phone is completely bare except for the volume rocker. Both the edges have a small blue LED that lights up whenever you have a missed call or an unread message. The back of the nokia 6300 has the camera and holes for the speaker. The bottom edge houses the usb port, headphone jack and the hole for the charger.
Camera and Music
The nokia 6300 has the basic 2 mp camera(no flash or autofocus) that is customary on most phones these days. The camera isn’t great. It isn’t meant to take jaw-dropping pictures. The pictures mostly seem to be faded out and may god help you if you try to take a picture without sufficient light. I did get some good results by using the daylight option under white balance.
The headphone jack is 2.5mm which means that you won’t be able to use your favorite pair of earphones. I bought an adapter which cost me a measly 20 bucks at a local store which enabled me to use 3.5mm earphones. The preset equalizers are pretty good for any average joe listener. I personally found the rock setting to be the best. The speaker on the phone is pretty loud. The most recent firmware update(rm-217) has however resulted in a noticeable decrease in the sound level.
User Interface
The nokia 6300 runs on symbian series 40 3rd edition. It is quite fast since it’s mostly java based. This also means that there is no scope for multi-tasking except incase of the music player. The menu has four types of views: grid, grid with names, list and tabs. I prefer the grid view since it shows all the icons at the same time. The phone has java MIDP 2.0. Most applications run smoothly and I have never had the problem of the phone hanging or restarting itself. The phone also has flash light 2, which put in layman’s terms means you’ll be able to apply some fancy themes which show the time, battery etc.(try zedge(.)com for themes).
Misc
The call quality is great and I have yet to have any dropped calls. Some people have claimed that the phone heats up during long conversations. I have not experienced this since I don’t really talk for more than 5-10 minutes. I guess since it’s metal it conducts heat rapidly thereby making people believe there is something wrong with it.While calling hold the phone in a way that doesn’t block the upper plastic part.
The 6300 has a micro sd slot under the battery cover. It supports cards up to 2GB.
The 6300i supports cards up to 4GB.
Problems
Battery life: The battery life of the nokia 6300 isn’t the best. It lasts a day with normal usage. The display sucks quite a lot of power and in their quest to slim down the 6300 nokia have made do with a not-so-good battery.
Conclusion
The nokia 6300 is a great buy for those looking for a phone that does the basics right and then some more at a reasonable price. For 6700 bucks it’s quite a good buy. If you have some more dough try going for the nokia 6700 or the nokia 6303.
Over and out.
