I bought this phone in the last week of June 09 for about Rs. 36000, I now hear it has come down to about Rs. 32000.
This phone is supposed to be the first high end touch screen model considering it comes from the N series stable, Nokia did have the 5800 Xpress Music earlier on but that can't be considered a high end phone.
In the box:
A smallish black box greets you, a charger (micro USB) plus an adapter to use with old nokia charger, a small note here is that most manufacturers have agreed to use this charging format in all phones in the future, minimizing the need for another port for data transfer.
A data cable
A two piece hands free, one being the earphones and another the remote unit.
A nokia case
2 plastic styluses
A battery
A device manual and a CD.
The phone
Hardware:
The build is absolutely brilliant, if you haven't had a chance to see it in person already, I advise you to go to a mobile phone store and just play with the device.
The build is all plastic, probably to keep the weight down, as it stands at 150g it is quite a handful.
A 3.5 inch resistive touch screen on the front, with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The technology used here is resistive, which means a little bit more pressure is required than say an I phone which uses capacitive technology.
The screen is quite responsive and within time you will get used to it, there is also haptic feedback to help you out.
There is a proximity sensor, a front facing video call camera , a physical menu button and touch sensitive call and end keys.
On the right side there is the volume rocker, and the shutter key, quite big so it’s comfortable to use it, on top there is a 3.5mm audio jack, and the power button.
The left hand side has the USB port for charging the phone as well as data transfer, the phone also recharges itself via USB on a computer. A small light lights up if the phone is charging, and in the middle there is a screen lock knob, used to lock the phone. Stereo speakers complete the left hand side.
The bottom only has the lanyard eyelet to attach a strap.
The back side of the handset features a 5 Mp camera with Dual LED Flash, protected with a lens cover.
The battery is a 1500 mAh BP-4L Li-Ion battery, the same one on the E71,and there is also Micro SD slot which can handle 16GB Micro Sd Cards. It is hot swappable, which means that you do not have to restart the phone, all in all about 48GB of storage including the 32GB onboard storage. Impressive!
The Keyboard is 3 row keyboard, which is revealed if you push the slider upwards, the mechanism is quite steady and firm.
The press feedback is excellent and a great help for faster typing.
The placement of the Space key on the right is also a part of the peculiar keyboard layout that needs getting used to.
And thus ends the Hardware Review of the Nokia N97.
