I am not an experienced SEO expert but I have two blogs on the google first page I will let you know what are the things I did. Once your blog hits the front page on google it doesnt matter what keyword or niche you are using traffic will be huge. Huge traffic means money.

The holy grail of websites is traffic so remember these simple steps. These steps dont guarantee getting to the google first page but will definitely help you.

• Keyword Competitiveness should also be analysed before you choose the domain. Do not tend to buy domains that may have a trade mark problem.
• Use different descriptive title tags on all of your web pages to show what the page is about.
• META description tag is the very important tag, search engines take website description through this tag, though search engines don’t give any importance to this tag in their ranking algorithms . This tag is helpful in leading relevant traffic to your site.
• Content is the king so concentrate on content development. Write your pages for people, not for search engines. Avoid duplicate content pages.
• Build a site map. Sitemaps help navigate large, complicated sites by showing its entire structure.
• Use a robots.txt file to block unwanted pages from being indexed.
• Use anchor links rather than hyperlinks. Anchor link is a little different from a hyperlink, a hyperlink directs to a complete webpage but anchor link directs to a specific area of a particular webpage.

Ask any doubts you guys have I will try to answer again I may not know the answer to all of them but will do my best to answer them.

As you said content is the master, URL also matters. If URL of your website reveals what it contains then that is very good. It should be User Friendly.

Tagging is also important in today's Web 2.0 Age.
