Rep Power: 2 | I have 4 partitions for windows xp, vista, and 2 dumps. i created a 14~ gb partition for installing ubuntu (i.e 1gb swap, and rem. 13 gb ubun.). after creating that space for linux another ~25gb partition was created and is unallocated. problem s that i cant move it to the extended partitions. am not able to create new partition in vista as well, it says 'there is not enough spce to complete this operation.' in gparted it works, ntfs, but as primary. I have attached a screenshot. Can this part. be moved or resized to existing extended partitions? (if yes, do i have to first delete 14gb part(for now its empty reserved for ubun 8.10)?) Thanks. Rep Power: 2 | Ok problem solved. i wanted to install ubuntu hardy heron, so i had gOS (a customised version of ubuntu) and the partition editor during install time showed me just a single part. ~40gb (actually in gparted live and in windows it was showing 2 parts. a free one in extended and an unallocated primary). Ok, since it showed single 40gb, i made a 27gb ntfs (G: in attached img) dump part. and made other 2 or gos from remaining 13gb, i.e. left 12gb to / and 1gb to swap. so, now i have xp, vista and gos, all 3 without any separate* unallocated partition and thus, my problem is solved. But, actually some months back, i had ubuntu 8.04 installed some of those parts. and i just had removed ubuntu bootloder using vista fixmbr. but i didn't format those drives so ubuntu was still there. and later i installed gos, so i had many etries in bootloader with gos and ubuntu with multiple kernels. Since i wanted any 1 linux dist. and a dump windows part. i had to repeat the intallation. although the solution was simple, because of my mistake (not formatting previous ubuntu) i had 2 install twice. hope helps someone. |
