My system crashed only once: I had Norton 2005 trial version. After uninstalling , windows crashed.
My OS is Windows XP (SP-II) now SP-III

It happened to me when I tried a Vistamizer in XP. Earlier, my OS used to crash once a month. Either a virus problem or bad sector issue. For last 2 months it is going fine. I changed all active paths to drive other than C and acquired some expertise in Firewall.

honestly my system has crashed umpteen number of times, most of those times I was running win 9x, and it never did give a reason as to why it crashed, and I'm told bill gates retired for dedicating his time for this very pupose. I'll get back to this thread, when results are out !

PS: Nice topic !

I had a crash couple of days back due to file system error.........
I disabled the automatic disk check at boot time and continued for sometime....
Then the system began behaving odd..... Used to get stuck for minutes, took about 30 mins to write a dvd and so on....
Just did a fresh install and everything works fine so far....................
