    Default Open Office Power

In this thread I will demonstrate : some of the powerful addons one by one ( not today I have to go to sleep).

First I will show how to use auto correct to complete your word:-
    Go to tool option:
    then autocorrect

    you will get this screen
Now set-up options like you would.
You can auto complete your word also by typing first few words. You will get tips.

Some of the addons with their latest version which I use as of 10 August:

    Translator's Tools 1.02
    Text Effects 0.7
Sun Wiki Publisher 1.1 ( Just installed it never felt the need)
    LanguageTool .99

An OxygenOffice Extra - Templates - multilanguage 2.6.0.2 ( Just installed it never felt the need)

Professional Template Pack - English 1.0 ( Just installed it never felt the need)
Sun Weblog Publisher 1.1.0 ( Just installed it never felt the need)

There are thousands of extensions ( addons) will start explaining them one by one from morrow. First I will explain these morrow.
History is on the move,my friends. Those who cannot keep up will be left behind, to watch from distance. And those who stand in its way will not watch at all.http://windows7sins.org/
People are going to tell stories about me none of which change who I really am.

I am not talking about mobile. I am here talking about an alternative to MS Office which is Open Office which has 1000s of extensions. I have created this thread for it .Now don't post about any other thing except on Open Office.

LanguageTool .99 : You should have Jre installed. You can write your own rule for grammatical errors using XML & Java for complex rule.

You can enable & disable a rule by using this window which you can get by clicking tool-language tool-configuration. For checking doc press F7.

Next i will explain Text Effects 0.7.

I've tried open office before. Last time i tried it didn't preserve the formatting completely, so i'm not actively using it.

Either way , i have limited use for office software. I didn't know there were extensions.
If possible i'd like to see review of popular/useful extensions.

In case of free even Abi word is good i guess. Haven't used it extensively either, but setup+plugins is under 10 Mb !

Abiword is good but Open Office had leave it far behind now. Open Office preserves formatting in Open document format. I see a potential in it like Fx as it too have 1000's of extensions through which you can do many things which are not possible in MS Office.

I haven't seen it match the popularity with MS office unlike the case of Fx Vs IE. It has been here for too long but still I haven't seen significant usage of that !

Thats because of rampant piracy here

Most people dont even know that MS Office is a non-free software .... lol

Open Office is available for both windows and Linux

    download: OpenOffice.org Downloads

its completely free and was run by Sun Microsystems

    open office portable

OpenOffice.org Portable | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB drives

rep+ for the article ...keep it going

But atleast nearly everyone knows its the best, even those who don't posses computer. OO hasn't got that much publicity.

    True it has the potential.

Being best is another thing. According to me Open Office is best as it gives more utilities now. MS Office is popular only because it is a Product of Microsoft which have lot of money. Sun Microsystems didn't have that kind of resources.
Now stop this debate , I have not created it for it. I have created it to show the capability of Open Office one by one.

Looks like OO is in luck. M$ has been ordered to stop selling/testing office 2003/2007/2010.

OpenOffice in many ways is much ahead of MSOffice.
OpenOffice introduced full spreadsheet functionality in tables within a word document and one click conversion to PDF way back in 2003.
Something that MSOffice has tried to emulate in MSOffice 2007.

In terms of file size also, OpenOffice files are much smaller, making them easier to transfer.

For most people, the basic plain vanilla version of OpenOffice 3.1 is more than enough.
For the record, the Election Commission of India and the Kerala Govt. uses OpenOffice only.

i didn't know it supported Docx. for me major problem was some it didn't preserve the formatting and sometimes threw up ramdom letters between. If they make that right, then its all set to become the best !

    @ luke

still waiting for review of extensions

This thread is not OpenOffice power by L.S. Others can also contribute
An OxygenOffice Extra - Templates - multilanguage 2.6.0.2

With it you can get templates for various uses. Going to post detail later.

I have used Open Office a little and I liked it's smooth interface, layout and features way better than M. S. Office.

Is it possible to edit Word, Excel, Powerpoint documents in Open Office ?

You can open M. S. Office documents in Open Office, copy the contents and create a new Open Office document. But is it possible edit the M. S. Office document in Open Office. When I tried this, the document opened in read only mode. I could read or copy text, but wasn't able to make changes to the document and save it.

I am able to. It might be just that the file don't have write permission. Check that.

You should get this when you save it:
