    Default Formatting Floppy Discs

A Floppy Disc is divided into concentric circles which are called tracks. These tracks are further sub divided into sectors. Data is stored in these sectors. The process of creating the tracks and sectors on a floppy disc is called formatting. New floppy discs are usually formatted but before storing data on it you should ensure formatting. As far as old floppy disc are concerned you should always format it before storing data. After frequent use of floppy discs, some bad sectors are developed. Bad sector is unreadable area on floppy disc. To fix this problem you need to format the disc. By formatting the floppy disc, tracks & sectors are recreated. In this process contents of the floppy disc are deleted.

I still use Floppy disc. It's required to install Windows XP in SATA hard disk. And I reinstall XP almost every month. So floppy disc is very important.

How many discs do you need for XP. If I remember correctly is
has about 1.6 or 2MB capacity right?

Just 1 floppy disc to install the driver. The capacity is 1.44 MB (3½ inch Floppy Disc).

I am from the old generation and I have seen floppy disks such as 8", 5.25", 3.5", etc. The 3.5" floppies have given me nightmares. I have stopped using floppies a long time ago.

Nowadays, new PCs are sold without these drives and you have to ask for the drive.

It is easier just to streamline the driver into the XP CD then use the floppy disc. That way the disc just runs as normal but it is able to load the driver without the use of the floppy disk but I guess since you already have it set-up it would work fine but future reference streamlining tends to be a lot easier.
