Only 1. Windows 7. Even a PC with 512 MB Ram can run it smooth.

If you definitely need to buy, you can download a good free linux distro (OpenSUSE, Ubuntu etc.) and donate a few thousand rupees to charity. Hey wait, I don't mind a receiving few thousand rupees.

I don't think there is a free version of Win7, but you may get the free trial for a certain period. Why don't try open source OS like LINUX?

Im with creobiz on this one. Open source is definitely the future, and Linux is the mother of all open source OS's.

Besides, no one writes viruses for Linux operating systems, it's only with Microsoft Windows that you are vulnerable and wide open, and you pay for the priviledge.

If you are a student Microsoft will offer you significantly cheaper prices to buy Windows 7 or any of their Operating Systems. Also if you just buy an OEM CD through amazon or some other online retailer you can get a full version of an operating system at a fraction of the cost but it is a one time use license though.

Why do you want to buy Windows 7, dude you neednt support Microsoft corps, they dont need you 'buying' the copy of windows 7 to get their share prices upto skies, i appreciate you want to promote software development by buying Windows 7, but you should not waste that much money on an Operating system, you can get yourself a new core i7 processor if you add rs 2000 to the price of Win7 ultimate... the best would be to get a copy of the windows 7 and have it cracked... you can even download it via peer to peer download using torrent. Or you might regret later.

And yeah, if you really want a legal OS go for Ubuntu linux, its the best... you can even get yourself a DVD for free on their website. But you might have problem configuring your internet connection over Ubuntu, but there's alwayz scope to learn

    Regards

People like you wont understand the efforts required to develop software. work in IT industry and work for 12-16 hours and then speak here.
if you cant afford then use linux but don't do/promote piracy.

Yes piracy is not a good thing and i dont want to promote it, but there is some genuine point what rahul941400 is mentioning, Microsoft OS are over priced and by purchasing it we should not encourage them for more.

We should support the OpenSource community by providing them monetary support what ever we can for the betterment of the community.

ROfl, what do you mean 'people like me?' What do you know about me? I am an IT engineering student mate, and am in the software development team for the Chrome OS. ,nd I very well understand the efforts but you dont see my point. Its about the Microsoft corporation not about the software developers, indian software engineers at MGS & Os development team r payed equivalent to a penny, dude even though they work hard 12-16 hours.
And I didnt promote piracy, I just suggested an alternative if he doesnt want to use linux.

    Hi..
    I should prefer Windows 7...
Windows 7 addresses the growing desire for application control solutions in the enterprise with the introduction of AppLocker: a simple and flexible mechanism that allows administrators to specify exactly what is allowed to run in their desktop environment.

    check compatibility for your system.
    Check prices.
Windows 7, Microsoft Windows 7, Buy Windows 7 Online at Microsoft Store
Better to buy new laptop with OEM copy !!!

I shifted to Windows 7 with great reluctance, but now I have forgot XP. Windows 7 is the best operating system at the moment. Linux has a lot of benefits but when you need buy any peripherals, the driver will be a big issue. Though there are good alternatives for Windows software in Linux, many prefer to use those famed ones as they got used to it.

And if you can wait for some 6 months, you can even buy a Windows 8. It will run on a machine which can run Windows 7.

No doubt,Win7 is the best operating system.I have win7 ultimate 64bit.But some softwares are not supported in 64bit windows.Recently,I bought Casio CTK 810in but its usb midi drivers are not supported in win7 64 bit.So I had to install winxp pro 32bit as a 2nd operating system to be able to connect my musical instrument to my pc.

    I have Windows 7 Professional +MSE only.
No problem/s so far for past two years, for my requirements .
    Agree with @meetdilip.!!

    @anadsht
Casio website also says no drivers planned for Windows 7. 64 bit.

Dude I would say....OS is completely dependent on your requirement.
OS will do exactly what you want it do…

For example. If you are a gamer and wanted to play all kind of games, I would say go for windows XP. The best OS so far. It supports most of the old and new applications(Including Games)

If you want a decent OS for your normal usage like songs, movies, office work then go for windows 7. It meant for it.

By anyways, all new games are getting designed in such a way that they run flawlessly on windows 7.

    Its up to you. :-)

That is not true. My laptop has Windows 7 but a few colleagues have Windows 8 on their office laptops. It does not turn your desktop into a mobile and mouse is certainly usable. I haven't explored much on Windows 8 and so I will refrain from further commenting.

okay why i hate it technically? friggin UEFI and secureboot lockup. ME region locks up, which means for guys like me, who is a coreboot user has no scope for installing coreboot. looks wise classy and peppy but practically its not worthy of such rich looks.
if you know whats ME region, it would save a lot of key strokes from me. It will work with complain on somewhat old machines. I have MSDN account and i get free M$ products. and because of which i was able to download windows server 2012. i have it installed on 32 GiB pen drive. Uniboot Pendrive, it boots almost all devices which are 64 bit. crisp and bloatfree unlike windows 8.
Metro UI is utter crap. they did it horribly wrong. if you are so confident then why are people downgrading from windows 8 to windows 7?
waiting for a rebuttal! yep bring it on. 18/20 friends of mine trashed windows 8 and asked me to put windows 7 back. they are annoyed with metro UI than impressed. windows 8 is ideal for windows phones/tablets (which i wouldnt waste money on!) but laptop/desktop no thanks please.
i had only 24 hours experience with windows 8, trashed it after 24 hours. not because i am a linux user. but i find windows 7 much worthy than windows 8.
ball is in your court. your turn your call. if i have to speak, i must listen. and i have to be heard then i have to listen. which is why refrain is not an option for me.
