I don know much about Motorola's so sorry. But others are masters. Please recheck in few hours. Let us know of your locality. And your connection. So that we can sort out the best of IP settings and proxies for your better speed online. Last edited by mickey; 07-06-09 at 03:24 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost | |

Rep Power: 1 | There really shouldnt be a noticable degradation in speed just because you've added an airlink router and one more pc to your connection if your WIRING and SETTINGS are right. Here's a checklist. And please do turn OFF your Motorola and Airlink before you do this. You should have an ethernet (CAT5) cable coming from the back of the Motorola modem to the port on the Airlink where it says WAN. If you connect the modem to any of the other ports (LAN1 through LAN4) you might face such issues or have no connectivity at all. Now you could have other ethernet cables from any of the four LAN ports on the Airlink to connect upto 4 computers. Let's say you have the second ethernet cable connecting your PC from the LAN1 port on the Airlink. Turn on your Motorola modem first and wait for it to sync - that is to say the Cable/Link light on the modem to turn on solid green. Then turn on the Airlink. Now on your PC verify these settings: Click on the START button, and click on RUN. When you get the RUN box, type in cmd and hit the Enter key on the keyboard. You should get a black window of sorts with a blinking cursor. At the cursor type in ipconfig and hit the Enter key again. This should show the ip address configuration. ![]() You should see your ip address in the same range as in the picture above. The last digit could be anything between 2 and 254 (defaults to 100 for an Airlink) The default gateway is the IP address of the Airlink router in this case and it normally defaults to 192.168.1.1 - as in the picture. If you have the settings right so far, it's time to move on to the configuration on the Airlink. Click on the START button on your desktop once again and click on RUN. Now type in iexplore 192.168.1.1 and hit the Enter key on your keyboard again. You should get an authentication prompt which should look like this: ![]() Type in admin both for the username and the password. I'm assuming this has not been changed earlier. You should see the Airlink 101 page and make these changes if they are not set and Save Changes or Apply: Internet Connection Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP Local IP Address: 192.168.1.1 You should now be able to go online without any problems once the WLAN light on your Airlink starts flickering. If you'd like to connect a wireless laptop, go to the Wireless link along the top of the same page and change your Wireless Network Mode to Mixed and Wireless SSID broadcast to Enabled and save the changes again. Once that's done go to the Wireless Security link along the top of the page and change Security Mode to WPA Personal, WPA Algorithms to TKIP. For the WPA Shared Key you could type in anything you want to set as a wireless password/key. You are gonna need this password/key to configure the wireless on the laptop. Once you make these changes and save the settings, turn off the wireless radio on your laptop and turn it back on. On a Windows XP system it should probably notify you if it finds the airlink's local wireless network and if you click on it - will prompt you to key in the wireless key/password. Once that's keyed in you should be able to go online wirelessly too. If the above doesn't work, turn off your computer(s), then the Airlink router and then the cable modem - in that order. Wait about 2 minutes and then turn them back on - Motorola then Airlink then the computer(s) - in that order and wait about 2 minutes between turning on each device. |

Rep Power: 1 | Setting up an iTouch for Wi-Fi isn't too difficult. Just follow these few steps. 1. Turn on the iTouch and tap the Settings icon. 2. Now tap on Wi-Fi at the top of the settings page to turn it ON if it's not already. You should then see a list of networks that you can join 3. Select your wireless network name from the list - which would be the name you'd set on the Airlink. 4. If it prompts you to type in the wireless key, do so. Otherwise tap on the the Lock icon next to the name. One catch here. If you had selected WEP on the airlink router wireless security page for encryption - you would need to prefix the wireless key with a dollar sign - $ when you key it in on the iTouch. This holds true for all Apple devices with WEP encryption. WPA DOES NOT require the key to be prefixed with the dollar sign as far as I can remember *sigh* but I could be wrong. Try it out |
