Try the speed test which is one of the best speed tests available, just install it on your pc and run it as many times as you want. The paid version also checked your upload speed.

I always use the online version from speakeasy for my speed test from here

    Speakeasy - Speed Test

This gives me very accurate speed every time. I have even tried the BSNL's speed test which shows really absurd values, mostly very high, don't know how they calculate such speeds, may be manipulated, i guess.

some nice tools there.....but i feel the simplest method to check speed is to d\l something from microsoft site and then multiply the transfer rate(in kilo bytes) with 8 to give your actual speed...

I have a vista addon that constantly updates the download speed and heaps of other stats about my connection althought I forget where I downloaded it from. If it springs to mind I will post it here later on.

Well why pay for something when you can get something with same features for free. I would suggest you to try out Net Meter which is gives detail info of everything.
