Hi,
I am using IOL Netcom 128kbps broadband internet PPPoE connection. Essentially that means that my ISP has given me a long LAN cable which connects to a router outside the building somewhere. I do not have the router name or number. I have been getting very low (avg. 10kbps) downloading speeds using bittorrent even though the upload speeds are high (30-40s). I recently read about port forwarding and found that my bittorrent ports are not forwarded.
Using ipconfig \all, my IP address comes out as 221.x.x.x to the outside world and the ususal 192.168.1.1. Using my ip address in IE shows page not found. I read that this probably indicates a bridge (?). I tried pinging the default gateway 192.168.1.1 but it failed. All portforwarding guides start with the user having to login to the router/ipaddress page. However since I am not able to open that page, I am not able to proceed with port forwarding.
In the exceptions tab I have opened several ports but I still need to forward bittorrent to make use of them. This I am guessing will be again done only when I am able to login to the router page.
Please guide me through this as I have not been able to get any help specific to portforwarding being done by someone who is using IOL Netcom.
