The original FarCry Developer team CRYTEK had long been integrated into EA Games. That left the producer UBiSOFT in a bad position. Anyway, UBISOFT has developed and used a new engine for the latest "FarCry 2" game.
Lets have a look at what it can do :
This engine is called "Dunia" and is completely different from the previous one. I dont believe this one is optimized/developed for creating the Tropical environment we are so familiar with from previous Farcry and ofcourse Crysis.
Having said that , I must confess that this one is the best for creating a seamless African environment where the game is based upon. I have attached several screenshots i took on my pc to show the amazing shadow effect. Dunia also supports the use of multiple processors and is ofcourse compatible with DX10 as well as DX9. The game takes place in a fictional modern-day Central African nation in a civil war. The player takes control of a mercenary on a lengthy journey to locate and assassinate "The Jackal", a notorious arms dealer. Enough said,
lets have a look at the screengrabs, shall we...........
Have a look at the first pic, the wooden house burning. It had a gasoline lamp and a crate full og bullets (ammo) inside. I shot the lamp out of curiosity and it fell on the floor, setting the floor on fire. Eventually the entire house caught fire, burnt down and collapsed. When the fire had reached the crate (I was safely outside the house ), the bullets were hot and started firing in wvery direction. I got shot too and had to run for cover.
Amazing engine. Also check out the last two pics showing shadow effect. The game has a complete day-night cycle (its pretty common nowadays ).
The shots were taken on my pc with the following config :
AMD 5000+
Asus M2NE
1GB Ram
XFX 7600GT 256mb
