    Default Brazil got….PS2???

Yes, this is true. Sony recently released PlayStation 2 officially in Brazil. It has been around 4 years since PlayStation 3 was released worldwide, Brazil now get to taste PlayStation.

As you know that the PlayStation 2 was officially released around 10 years back.

And this is not it. Just check out the price of the console in Brazil. You have to spend around $465 US dollars to buy a brand new PlayStation 2 in Brazil. This price is much higher than the 120 GB PlayStation 3 model which is currently available for just $300.

One of the reasons for such a difference in prices is heavy import taxes in Brazil, which is currently 60%.

Talking about the CDs for the console, you have to spend around $40-$50 for each new game.

What a rip-off import customs tend to get. Never knew Brazil would be so outdated with technology.

I also heard that people had to wear branded shoes for years and their shoes almost got torn up cause there is high import duty levied on finished foreign items in Latin america.

Why is Sony even bothering to launch the console at such a high price point? I am sure they would also realise there is hardly a market for an outdated console with such a high price even though the catalog of games is one of the best ever.

Is it an offcial Sony launch? I suspect some third-party could be involved in this.

We had something similar happen a while back when one Delhi based company claimed that they are getting Nintendo Wii to India offcially even though Nintendo has no tie-up with them.

Predictibly, the whole thing fizzled out after highly priced consoles and piarted games being stocked in the company store surfaced.

There could be great loss of people buying them in such cases but this cannot be the case because import duty cannot be levied on pirated goods.
