Default 8x8 Signs Government Teaming Agreement With Level 3

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct 1, 2009 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- 8x8, Inc. (Nasdaq:EGHT), provider of Internet Protocol (IP) communications solutions for business and residential users, today announced it has signed a teaming agreement with Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT), establishing a framework for both companies to work together in responding to federal government solicitations for telecommunications services.
The agreement enables 8x8 and Level 3 to collaborate on government proposals for telecommunications deployments that include hosted IP telephony services (IPTelS). Level 3 Communications, a leading international provider of fiber-based communications services, has demonstrated increasing traction with its government business and is a prime contractor on several federal contracts.
"8x8 is delighted to collaborate even more closely with Level 3 to provide leading edge services such as IPTelS to the federal government," said Bryan Martin, chairman and chief executive officer of 8x8. "In these times of soaring budget deficits and close scrutiny of government spending, we are confident the government will see the cost benefits of hosted IP telephony along with the increased productivity a combined solution from Level 3 and 8x8 provides. This is a great opportunity to leverage both companies' relationships and capabilities and develop a solid business partnership."
8x8's hosted IP PBX phone service meets the critical performance standards required by government and large enterprise customers. In March 2009, the company announced it had upgraded its service infrastructure, deploying a new triple redundant architecture across three independent data centers with each data center connected to redundant IP access providers. This new architecture allows for failure of any software component, server, cluster or even a complete data center failure without affecting service to the end customer.
"Level 3 and 8x8 have a longstanding relationship of collaboration - 8x8's attention to quality and reliability fit well with Level 3's extensive network reach and comprehensive portfolio of voice and data services," said Edward Morche, senior vice president of Federal Markets for Level 3. "Government requirements for IPTelS are accelerating and we believe the teaming agreement with 8x8 positions us to provide strong, competitive bids with high-quality technology and customer service as standard."
