Kodak Sets New Worldwide Sustainability Goals Kodak Sets New Worldwide Sustainability Goals
Eastman Kodak Company has established new “Responsible Growth” goals to better reflect the health, safety, and environmental (HSE) challenges of the digital company it has become. The company also noted that it has surpassed, three years ahead of schedule, all of its manufacturing-focused 2008 HSE performance improvement goals. These goals, established in 2003, were designed to reduce the environmental impact of the company’s traditional manufacturing infrastructure.
“Kodak’s existing goals placed a great deal of emphasis on improvements within our traditional manufacturing operations,” said David M. Kiser, director of Health, Safety and Environment and vice president, Eastman Kodak Company. “We have achieved those goals, and since Kodak now is a digital company, its HSE programs are aligning with the needs of this new company.
Kiser noted that the 2008 goals were aggressive and were met through a combination of efficiency gains from lean manufacturing practices, as well as significant reductions of manufacturing assets ahead of the decline of traditional photographic products.
The new worldwide HSE Responsible Growth goals focus on the areas of social responsibility, product responsibility and operational responsibility. “Responsible Growth means reducing our impact on the environment, protecting the safety of our employees and customers, and supporting the communities where we do business – while ensuring sustainable growth and profitability for the company,” said Kiser. “As a digital company, we recognize the need to increase our emphasis on product stewardship and build strong partnerships with Kodak suppliers.” |
