Default Kingston Technology Adds 8GB Memory Card to SDHC Family

Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced it will expand its line of Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) memory cards with the introduction of three new 8GB cards available in Class 2, 4 and 6 speed ratings as well as two new 4GB SDHC cards in Class 4 and 6 speeds, to maximize the performance of today’s higher resolution imaging devices, that include digital cameras, camcorders, PDAs, MP3 players and more.

“Today’s higher resolution image devices require larger memory card capacity and faster Data Transfer Rate (DTR) to maximize overall performance,” said Jean Wong, Flash product manager, Kingston®. “Our new 8GB SDHC cards, as well as the 4GB Class 4 and 6 cards, satisfy the growing demand to help consumers get the most out of their advanced digital devices.”

The new SDHC format surpasses capacities beyond the original 2GB threshold for the Secure Digital™ (SD) card format. Offered in three different speed classes (2, 4 and 6), each SDHC class designation reflects the minimum sustained DTR of megabytes per second. For example, a Class 2 SDHC card has a minimum DTR of 2MB/sec, while a Class 6 SDHC card has a minimum DTR of 6MB/sec. The higher capacities and speeds of the SDHC format optimizes SDHC-compatible devices running MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and other high quality video compression used by consumer HD and DVD video.
