Rep Power: 10 | Despite Growth In CDMA, GSM Rules The Russian Market Although there was no decline in the demand for CDMA technology enabled mobile phones in Russian mobile market, the demand of GSM is growing at a record-breaking speed. In the year 2005 alone, there were 98.7 percent GSM subscribers in Russia. The constant increase in the demand for wireless services in Russia offers great growth prospects for both the CDMA as well as GSM technologies. Ranked 4th in the world, the mobile market in Russia offers enormous scope and opportunities for value added mobile services. The CDMA Development Group is anticipated to work in collaboration with the 3G Association for sharing of information and promoting CDMA2000 in Russia. SkyLink, one of the key players in CDMA technology, has been able to make its presence felt in the mobile industry in Russia. However, with CDMA making up for just 0.7% of the overall mobile market in Russia, there is stiff competition ahead of CDMA to stand before GSM. As per a recent market research report named, “Russian Mobile Market - An Industry Insight (2006)” published by RNCOS, “Total subscribers of mobile phones increased to 130mn from 49mn in early 2005.
