I discovered railwire with the help of this website. Talked to the representative.
She appeared quite informed about static and dynamic ip, optical fibre and ping speeds. When i inquired about when they are coming to Delhi, she replied that they will be offering services in Delhi from mid 2009 or end of 2009.
the tarrifs as all of you know are the best in India for unlimited plans.

I also asked her about the 1:4 sharing issue. her reply is as follows

1:4 sharing ratio simply means that 4 people share the same switcher. IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY SHARE THE SAME INTERNET. I.E. if u apply for 1mbps u will not get 256 kbps speed.

I will illustrate with an example:
Suppose the switcher near your house can handle a max of 100mbps. now if the other 3 people sharing with u are all having 32mbps plans then the switcher will be 96/100 mbps full..now if u apple for a 8 mbps plan, the max u will be getting will be 4 mbps..either that or all 4 of u will be getting reduced speeds.

I am very exited! will take up railwire the day it reaches delhi!!

still i would like to tell you that railwire can not provide connection in whole delhi and i think they will pick a small area or sector to start up there services. I understand railwire is offering very attractive plans with high speed but the only problem with them is limited area for connection.

Ya. I know that they will choose a small part of Delhi. I hope that part gives them an outstanding responce. Didn't believe at first that this venture has been undertaken by the railways! Lalloo is awesome!! Lol!!

can any1 tell me when can i get this in mumbai ...these tariff rates are awesome

they are limited to banglore only (specific area) not everywhere and not sure when they are planing to come to mumbai, if you need more information on that or need official statement then you can

I called and they said that they will start covering Mumbai only after 2009 as they are still trying to cover bangalore SAADDDDD im payin 2199 fr 1 mbps to reliance ultd.

yes they are still trying to cover banglore only, right now railwire is available in whitefields only. If it turns real everywhere then it can make a big difference in India.

first they need to cover urban areas of bangalore ,then only they will come to delhi

i beleive its still under testing progress

They've been telling people in various cities that they will be offering, but so far, still only in the 50sqkm area of Bangalore.

I've been in direct contact with Railtel (Western India) on the wholesale side and they are having significant setbacks with last mile connectivity and setting up retail (consumer) operations.

They are, however, more than happy to provide licensed ISPs with backhaul fiber anywhere in India. So chances are, you're going to see Railtel offering services via other ISPs, such as mine
