Hello...
Did anyone here experience that Reliance 3g service was down tonight for about one hour in Kolkata? It was not working at all.
How often does this happen? Very frustrating...
Thanks.

I tried, but could not. Actually, getting a prepaid activation for a mobile phone/modem is not easy for a foreigner. You need an "address proof" as they say here and this needs to come from the government. So this means I would technically need to be a resident. I went to both BSNL and Vodafone shops and was rejected from both with the bill from my hotel. I made friends with a guy in another shop who was able to help me out and got me set up with Reliance. But this was just luck of the draw, I don't think I could have gotten this taken care of had I not met this man. I've never spent time in a country where getting a prepaid setup requires so much paperwork.
If I could find a way to get BSNL prepaid mobile broadband service in addition to what I have now, I would do it. It would be good to have two services at the same time so when I have a problem with one, I use the other. If you know a way I can get what I am looking for with BSNL, let me know. 200kbits per second service in smaller towns is workable, anything less than that is not.
Thanks for any tips!
well documents proofs are important for the internal security of the country, so i am sorry that this happened to you, but for Indians it is normal..![]()
about getting a sim card from bsnl is little fuzzy..
i think you should post a thread on the travel forum http://www.indiamike.com/india/ and hope someone quotes there..
