    Smile Reliance 400 kbps Plan

    Hi all,

I am from chennai and this is my first post in this site and i hope this will get me going along with your help.
I have newly subscribed for the 400 kbps plan UNLIMITED plan from Reliance Broadband.
I have chosen the Quarterly Payment Plan (for 400 kbps, Rs. 3,347, 3 months).
I just need to know how the plan is? Download speeds? Especially, coz i am fond of downloading data using torrents.

    Your information is highly valuable.

    Thanks,
    Sudharshan R

What are your current download speeds? Ideally your speeds should waver within 50 kBps.

Ah then pardon me. I never really paid attention. When you're on an unlimted connection, you tend to not worry about the details as long as the files arrive in due course of time. :P

Default Reliance Wimax is great (good speed and connectivity)

    Sudarshan R,

You made a good choice by taking Reliance Broadband. I do not know if you are taking Wimax or Wired Broadband. I think both are good. I took the Wimax route.

Personally I am using this and very much satisfied with this. I have taken connection some time back when it was 300kbps speed. I always had this speed on average.

Only on rare occasions when the optical fibers got cut in the Middle East did face any discomfort. But it was not too much considering I hardly remember how many days it was. The customer care is always there. You can call them (though it will appear difficult to make them understand at first still), they are very friendly and if you ask anything then they will definitely take time to explain the reasons.

There are certain things in using Wimax that places burden on the part of the user using it. There is no problem with speed. The connectivity is always good except when you switch on the power to the PoE (power over ethernet) device that they give with the connection. Here patience plays, because it takes time for our modem to get an IP address from the DHCP server from Reliance.

I talked a friend using Airtel Broadband and he told even in wired broadband, the power up initially takes little time to get IP address.

If this is understood practically, you will enjoy this connection even though it is a little costlier (100-200/-) compared to others (like I am already doing)

    Thanks,
    fornls.

    Thumbs up Thanks fornls

    @ fornls,

    Thats really kind of you.

Yes i already have got the connection. 2 technicians (not from reliance but they are reliance franchise i believe) came for the installation, installed the WIMAX dish on the roof (similar to the ones we install for Airtel digital tv, tata sky, dish tv, etc., but diff in shape), checked the connection strength (it is 25 in my case - they told me that 30 is the max strength and 8 is the min to get a connection), they also added that it is really good that i get 25, the wimax tower is placed in Chrompet MEPZ, ~ 7 kms from where i stay actually.

As you have said, initial booting requires determination of IP address and it takes sometime, 3-4 mins in my case. (But prior i used SIFY and Hathway - where it is always ready to use. SIFY is really good and Hathway i had worst expereiences).

But the connection is really good. I have taken 400 kbps - quarterly plan (3,367 rs for 3 months including ainstallation and all). It always connects around 200+ kbps and the download speed is almost 40+ kBps.

Since i am heavy downloader (using torrents), i really needed sppeds like this.

So far Reliance is good considering only that defined bad fact (initial connection).

Rest is all fine with reliance.

    Thanks,
    Sudharshan R

Yup and even after 1year the speeds and prices are still the same, God knows when india will develop, reliance should really start taking broadband market seriously from now on, it's already high time..

    get ur facts right

for ex 1 year ago 400kbps plan from reliance cost 999Pm and today it cost 749, 1MbPS plan was 2600 pm and now its 1500 and 2Mbps plan was on 5000 now it cost 2500 still not satisfied? i think everyone in India want speed and quality for free!!

and for ur kind info Only in Reliance in India is giving Optic Fiber-To-Node connectivity with no Fair usage policy and dedicated speeds 24X7

Dude, In 1and 2Mbps u can't even watch a simple youtube video, forget bout downloading heavy files, it takes ages to download even 1GB file, world is progressing and enjoying more than 100Mbps speeds and we are still struck at 1and 2Mbps, reliance should atleast start providing their 10Mbps unlimited@ reasonable prices, then it would make some sense, that's the right speed for today's downloading needs..

If Reliance start providing a 10mbps unlimited connection under Rs3000 then I would actually move into an area where Reliance is available because where I live right now we dont have Reliance.

i think u haven't used speeds above 256 and by ur saying u cant get good streaming at 1Mbps and 2Mbps non HD videos stream like cream even on 600KbPS plan!! and on 1MbPS they load lightning fast most of the isp's in india will give u dedicated speeds on every other sites but on youtube they throttle it because videos suck bandwitdh like crazy! but on reliance u get cent per cent streaming rate not even a single bit is lost just see youtube streaming rate on 600KbPS plan (screen shot taken after 20 seconds to eliminate speed bursts)

and 1 gb takes ages to get download!! get a life dude on simple 600kbps plan it takes 3.9 hours precise to download 1GB, considering connection is UL 24X7 without any caps its worth every penny!!

actually reliance was available in ur area i know Reliance installation staff and their managers who work in Reliance CMP in mayapuri they said in ur area lots of Optic Fibers cables were stolen and backup batteries installed in Cisco optic Ethernet switch were getting stolen frequently and 1 Cisco ME3400 costing Rs 1,12,000 was stolen!!!! due to this they get tons of frequent disconnection complaints so they decided to withdraw their services.

    Hi friends

i m using reliance wimax in mumbai.(600kbps with 1500 rent)
i find it good, but it depends on Luck,as reliance TECH guys are worst in d world.
ya but if u have a gud siganl strength,u wilnt face any problems.
i m also getting constant downloading speed of 70 kbps all time.
so i wil suggest you try it on ur own risk..........i went fr it coz i dnt have ny option n TATA Wimax is no more in the Market :-(......
