Thanks for the positive reply PriyaN. Erm..., my post count isn't 500 yet . So, I can't give pm's. Will try another contact method. I will later mention another forum, where, please make the same id, so I can contact you through PM. Am happy to help on the security issues.

Btw, anyone interested in establishing a private Lan through OpenVPN ?

Sorry for the late reply ,PriyaN. Please mail me on dragunov.hack@hushmail.com for getting instructions on how to exploit the reliance SESM login system for broadnet, and use multiple accounts.

hey guys till last week i was a happy reliance customer with a daily transfer rate of about 2GB and this is my third year with reliance. Barring some occasional glitch the sailing was smooth till nov 09. From Dec 09 onwards i too am getting trouble connecting / consistent bandwidth. Reliance winding up operations or what?

    What you say priyan?

114608934 was automatically closed again. Lodged a new one 114673347 on 07.12.2009. In the meantime dug up my product information brochure i got when I had taken the connection with the names of the persons written by pen on it, go hold of one of them, now an officer in the company, who directed to local support people. The people paid me a visit. Issue resolved, paa download complete, now downloading radio @ average of 300kbps as reported by DUMeter installed on my system.

Lesson learned : Bother to tell reliance customer care to get only a complaint number. Bribe local support with good quality movie (2012 in my case) and they'll do your job in 24 mins rather than 24hours. Beat that!!
    Very Happy Now.

Please try not posting your Copyright Infringement acts publicly. :P. Someone might get a hold on them, and then on you.

    Default Time for an update

It has been almost an year and half with the Reliance connection and I wanted to post an update.

I had started with a 300 kbps plan and then moved through 600 kbps to finally settle with a 1 mbps unlimited connection. The tariff was 649 (300 kbps) with a free talk time of 150, and now is 1099 (1 mbps) with a free talk time of 50 rupees. However the per minute call charges have significantly come down in the new plan to compensate for the lesser talk time. That is on the economics part.

The connection is very stable, I hardly have a few minutes of downtime in a month, the speeds are at least as advertised (typically >1 mbps down and about 650 kbps up). I had earlier voiced a lot of criticism over IP not being assigned to wifi router about once in a month - this issue seems resolved now. The other sticky point was a half an hour's wait when your session is locked up (wrong password, change in mac etc.), but Reliance now has an option to clear locked sessions by entering your password. Billing has never been an issue for me so far. Online bill view and payment has been improved by integrating multiple sites into one 'services.relianceada' site/login and it works as expected - showing your bills, unbilled use, receipts etc. Telephonic customer support is not too bad either. There was another tricky issue where you sometimes saw someone else's profile details when you logged in, but I haven't seen this happen in a while now. The need to do a web login exists even now, but it has not been a hassle in that you can even login from your mobile phone accessing the web page.

In summary, Reliance seems to be listening and improving on the nick nacks that caused some troubles earlier, albeit slowly. With the good performance, decent tariffs and fairly okay customer support that I experienced, I can certainly recommend to go for a Reliance wired broadband connection. I am not sure if Sales have stopped being deceptive and if the same performance applies to someone who does not have a 'terminal box' on their roof!

    Cheers.

I believe so. IIRC, it was some 2000/year, but you will need to confirm that with customercare.

But I don't think you need a static IP for an always on connection - were you thinking of hosting a site?

Not really. The basic need is to have ready connectivity on boot

Technically you can put in a little script that does this at boot.

And are you sure a static IP does not need a web login?

From what I have read here in discussions, I have come to know so.

As far as the Reliance wired connection is concerned , their service is good compared to other service providers, but the only issue is that you don't get a quick responce to your problem in case if you get a network issue or modem issue or as such (Which some times annoys you a lot)

    Talking

    Hi,
I have posted somewhere in this community that i was taking up reliance connection.

Well its been close to 5-6 months, i can say this is my first internet connection that i ever had and its been stable all these days... had only few down time so far.... its negligble i can say...download speed is really good. I have 600 Kbps combo.... at times the download speed goes upto 80-95 kBps. (i.e, 80*8)

But however the only draw back is they dont support wifi ... i had a fight with the reliance customer service and local techies....
but somehow managed to get the wireless working in seconds...( was working at a tech support supporting wireless dept.)

all in all..i can say compared to my frnds circle internet connection (BSNL, TATA, HATHWAY) reliance is far far better.

BTW their SLA is less than 4 hours... i only had a 6 hour downtime once due to login issue but was resolved eventually.

Now the only thing thats bothering me is their Landline connection never worked for me. Its always a problem.

However now the time has come to say good bye to reliance, i am planning to go for either airtel or BSNL.... as i wil be shifting my house.
I have placed a call for cancellation waiting for a call from their retention dept. lets c if i can work out deal with them.

The relocation charges are hefty i dont wanna pay so much, when i can get a new connection.

Current location Rajajinagar, shifting to Vijaynagar (Bangalore)

BUt one things for sure their internet connection is really good and also the customer service, very frindly reps..(so far never had a bad experience)

    Cheers

You can apply for a BSNL Landline and Broadbnad connection ONLINE.
No need to log in ( for bsnl staff)
    UDAAN PROJECT -- BSNL
    Tariff plan selector:
    http://210.212.169.201/erp/bbplan.php?action=N

or all Tariff plans in a different format.
    http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm

All new connections get FREE download at 2 Mbps for first 15 days
from date connection given and activated till 31st March 2011.

If you have modem and wifi route set for Reliance : no changes except userId/PW (and dns change if needed).
    BSNL.VPI/VCI 0 and 35.
