Question Reliance 649 combo vs Airtel 699 combo - urgent help needed

I am presently using Tata 128 Kbps postpaid near magarpatta city, hadapsar, pune but want to shift to either airtel or reliance due to need of higher bandwidth at lower price.

With Tata I get the following
    1] Live IP (static IP)
    2] 15-16 Kbps download speed
3] I am not sure about Fair usage policy applicable to my plan
    4] Wired router
5] No ports blocked (as far as I know)
I pay Rs. 700 + taxes / month for this

I have seen 2 plans which seem interesting, 1 from reliance and 1 from airtel
Reliance - 300Kbps combo plan which is "Plan 649 combo" and also gives me local calls worth Rs. 150/month (This is from flyer dropped at my house and also at Reliance website)
The total I pay for this is Rs. 649 + taxes / month and installation charges of Rs. 500

Airtel - 256 Kpbs combo plan which gives me unlimited transfer during night and 3GB during day with around 100 Rs. of local landline calls (This is only from flyer dropped at my place. I don't see any such plan on Airtel website)
The total I pay for this is Rs. 699 + taxes / month and installation charges of Rs. 500
Rs. 1000 extra if I want a Wifi router from them

    My questions are;
1] Which one is better in service, download speed, uptime, customer service response...in short all aspects
2] any fair usage policy applies to any of the plans
3] How much download speed will I get with each plan
4] will I get a static IP od a dynamic one
5] Will it be live IP of private IP
6] Can I configure my own wireless router with any of the above connections, be it statis, dynamic, live or private IP
7] Are any ports blocked by reliance and airtel.
8] Time taken for installation from the day I make payment of Rs. 500

Please help as I need to get going with some plan asap.

I don't think BSNL can fit my budget.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Rahul

    Hi,

Can't help you in terms of Airtel but here are answers pertaining to Reliance

    1) any fair usage policy applies to any of the plans
Plan 649 Combo is a Flat Fee plans (Unlimited Download & Upload Speed) and in Reliance unlimited is really unlimited

    2) How much download speed will I get with each plan
Broadband connection (Downloading) is always on "Best Effort Basis", since its a shared bandwidth

3] will I get a static IP od a dynamic one
With Plan 649 Combo, you will get a Dynamic IP

4] Will it be live IP of private IP
    Dynamic - Live IP

5] Can I configure my own wireless router with any of the above connections, be it statis, dynamic, live or private IP
Wireless Router can be configured, it will be on Dynamic Live IP

6] Are any ports blocked by reliance and airtel.
Yes, Virus Prone Ports are blocked

7] Time taken for installation from the day I make payment of Rs. 500
    7 Days installation time.

    Hope it helps

Be sure to check the occasional wifi troubles with Reliance before you take the leap.

    Default Thanks Glass

Thanks Glass. I will surely check wifi issues.

My main criteria is to get good uninterrupted speed with minimal downtime.

Wifi at this moment is secondry.

Default Final one before I go for reliance

Final question (Priyan still pending to get back to me about my area feasibility).

If there a logon process for Reliance broadband?
If yes, does it auto logoff's?
    After how much time?
If i keep something to be downloaded, will it log of in middle just because my PC is locked?

    Regards,
    Rahul

    Default Reliance logon

The reliance uses the Cisco provided SESM framework for logging in/out people. Its a web based portal for logging in. I think it logs out after 30 mins of inactivity or after 24 hours. The good thing about it is, it is OS neutral. Bad thing, its kinda difficult to automate it, though its easy too .

If yes is it Wimax or Wireline based?

i have used both airtel(256kbps) as well as reliance (300kbps) and i found the reliance connection better than the airtel. the dwnloading speed is better. i usually get around 32-35 kbps in bit torrent whereas there is a slight fall in the speed using airtel. i havnt faced any problem yet regarding the service.
so if anyone is confused among these two connections, he/she should..no no..MUST go for the RCOM rather than airtel.

I suggest u go minimum for 1Mbps unlimited connection, cause with 300Kbps speed u can't even watch a simple youtube video, Plan 649 really sucks..

Reliance blocks Active Directory LDAP ports also, so no office stuff with reliance.
yet its better since better speed and more connectivity.

airtel will take money and bite you from behind...

then you have to run after them. i know because i am a victim
