Cool Help from Professionals - Reliance Broadband

    Dear Professionals,

I have recently joined this forum and I am appreciating everyone for providing their support for persons like me. Now I will come to my question. BasicallY I am a doctor and not like you people (professionals in software and hardware). I have used Airtel unlimited plan for 2 years without any problem when i was in Chennai. Recently I have moved to Cochin. In my locality I have only BSNL, Asianet and Reliance. I tried BSNL and they said it will take 3 months or more. When I enquired reliance, they came to my place immediatly and confirmed that they have Optical fibre cable nearby and we will provide the service within 2 days. Now problem is I dont have PC and use only laptop. As in Chennai Airtel has provided wifi modem, so i dont have any problem. But to reliance they said we cant provide wifi. Now whether it is advisable to take reliance without wifi ( as i have read most of them are telling it is difficult to make compatible), next if i have to take reliance means which one modem cum router will be the best as like Airtel (i.e.) simply switch on Airtel modem and laptop, it will connect. Guide me in right track before i will get into trouble. I plan to take 512 kbps plan from any of the ISP's with laptop support. Expecting immediate help.

    Thanking You.

1.In Chennai Reliance provides Landline ( telephone line)
    based broadband internet connection.
    2. Supplied only an ADSL modem ZTE zxdsl 831 AII
and of course a telephone instrument.
    ( Take it : no rental I think! )
    3. Now if you have a WiFi modem Beetel 450 BX1
or Beetel 450TCI you can use it
    4. Only condition the VPI/VCI for Reliance
to be selected in router settings )
    For AIRTEL 1 and 32 BSNL 0 and 35.

5.Do not opt for annual plan with Reliance.
    Service/CC/ billing : many complaints.
Disconnect when you get BSNL Broadband.

    6. Ensure Reliance staff , show Internet connection
    is working with their modem.
YOU can avoid/opt out of the
    Telephone usage/ connection/instrument.

Priyan from Reliance had indicated a few months back they are working on this, but nothing has changed even today. With this trouble still looming, I suggest anyone who needs reliable wifi on an ADSL router to stay away from Reliance broadband. It is never a great idea to go for a service where the management is fast asleep to one customer issue, for years. No point in having supposedly world class infrastructure, if the service is unreliable - your service as good as the weakest link.
My ISP Airtel and BSNL Dataone ( both more than 2 years in use )

    8. CONFiRM your laptop has BOTH ethernet Port ( card built in )
and Wireless LANcard Internal or external ( You have used this for Airtel )

    Default Ernakulam

    Dear Essbebe,

Cochin is also known as Ernakulam, fine no doubt about it, but in reality people all are following it as two. That is not our issue. Issue here is whether to take reliance or not for my laptop as because of ADSl/ router ompatibility. I have contacted CC of Reliance also, their response is YES YOU CAN. I know this is to sell their product. I have posted this query to get response from professionals like you to guide me to the people like me who are not professionals in this field. Provide me whether any ADSL / router will support reliance broadband WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE. If yes, which is the model ? If not reliance, which will be your option in speed, service and related factors ? (I dont have AIRTEL only, all other ISP's are there). Even it is BSNL, I am ready to wait for them, instead of taking some crap and struggling with them. Kindly guide me.

If you just have one laptop and have no need to connect another PC/Mobile phone etc. ever, you should still be able to use Reliance for wifi without much difficulty (i.e., in bridge mode).

This is because the Reliance troubles occur in MER/Dynamic IP mode, which is required if you need a permanent LAN IP on the system (such as 192.168.1.2), need the router's firewall to work, or switch between different systems,/connect more than one of them simultaneously.

Any ADSL wifi modem (and the one you have should work). If you are going to buy a new one, make sure you have a model that has MAC cloning ability - some people have reported better results in MER mode with such routers.

Secondly, you can use some of the applications available for free download on this forum to provide you an automatic login into internet when you boot.

Other than this issue, the connection in general is decent and gives the promised speeds. Bear in mind the connection quality differs from city to city and locality to locality - so while the connection in general is okay, you should also check how it is in your own locality.

If however, you see the above as hassle, you should go for any other ISP, and it is more straightforward to connect and use wifi.

    Good luck.
