Whatever wifi router you use, it will not work with Reliance. Because they started blocking routers. If you connect a router to their modem, it won't get an IP address. So. The only way is to directly connect your PC to their modem.

Of course, this is sucks.. But doesn't reliance comms as a whole suck?

    Hi,

I also hv a linksys router connected to the reliance broadnet modem. My router is not able to get the dns and ip address from the reliance modem. It shows 0.0.0.0. Since I donot hv a static ip, I cannot provide one to the router. Is it a router problem ? Did u face something like this ?

    Hi,

I had not used my wi-fi for the last 5 months. But I did check yesterday (17/12) and it (still) works ! :-). I know it is not beyond Reliance to do do such things, but I wonder why they are stopping this use of wi-fi routers. As it is they dont provide any support if you connect using wi-fi, then what is their problem if I use a router on my own ?

Also I have had no official communication from reliance though I dont expect any such niceties/courtesy from them.

What do you think is their motivation behind this ?

    cheers.

Was your connection with the router working before and has now stopped working ?

If not, then it could be a configuration issue. Refer to my post on configuration.

    cheers.

It worked once or twice earlier on. I still donot know hv a clear idea of the pattern in which it worked.
For couple of days now, it does not work.I even tried connecting the modem directly to the pc and logging into the reliance site and than plugging the modem cable to the internet port in the linksys router. It stills does not recognise the modem ip. The router is configured to used DHCP automically. I even got the dns server and hardcoded the same in the router configuration but still it is not able to recognise the internet connection.

Any help. Shuld I replace the router ?

    hi!
I share my feelings of apathy towards teh reliance customer care!! These buggers KNOW NOTHING!! i dont know how a multinational like reliance can be so silly! I switched from Hathway to Reliance, but am equally dissappointed Though teh speeds better than hathway, the customer service is ****!!
Neways i am also looking to connect my wireless router to the connection so i can use wired on pc and wireless on laptop! i have a 150 kbps connection and dont have static IP! i know my dns and stuff!! is there any1 why can really help me setup this or is there any one in a similar situation and has been successful!!??

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I agree with you totally on Reliance Customer care....they are a bunch of idiots, who dont know what they are doing there.....anyway thats another story

Refer to my earlier post on how to configure the wi-fi router.
    In essence its simple.
    1. First start your modem. wait for it to boot completely.
    2. Connect your modem out cable to the WAN port on your router.
    3. Congfigure your router -> Enter the DNS IP's, select option to get IP automatically
    4. Connect your laptop/PC to your router and you are on.

    cheers.

At the same time if i connect my laptop directly without the wii router, it connects immediately, which means the net is UP and running! Cant really understand why it isnt connection via the router

Have you configured the routers dns correctly?

Have you configured the laptops dns to auto? And I hope you are not trying to connect using the routers user name and pass option... with reliance you still have to use the log in client from your PC.

Hmmm...Can you post the exact steps that you followed ?
Also when you are connected to the router, can you do ipconfig /all on your command prompt and post what you are getting there ?

You said earlier that your connection worked once or twice before, so either your configuration is now wrong or your router has stopped working/has problems or reliance has started to block your router.

You have to eliminate the first 2 possibilities before concluding the 3rd :-)

I am writing this, connected by wi-fi. It still works :-)
    cheers.

    Hi,

What is type is your broadband connection ? Cable ? ADSL ? Wi-max ?
I am not sure how you dont have a modem. It could be cable broadband.

You will have to buy a wireless router which supports your connection type. Some routers support both cable & DSL/ADSL. Some support only one of them.

    cheers.

Netgear wireless router can be purchased for Rs1100-1200 from any shop.. Dont know which one are you talking about. I have been using this netgear router at home which covers all three floors and I bought it for Rs1100 about 6-7 months back.

I have a Reliance Wi-Max connection whose router is on the terrace, attached to the antenna. I bought a new D-Link DI-524 WiFi router. I have configured the LAN and Wireless setting of the D-Link router and I have configured the WAN setting to take the dynamic IP assigned by the ISP. Now when i connect the white LAN cable that comes from the Reliance CPE, it should assign a dynamic IP to my D-Link WiFi router, but for some unknown reason, it doesn't. Have u faced such a problem? Can u pls. suggest any soln. to this problem?

    Hi Omkar,

U shouldn't enter any ip address or DNS or gatewa.... Leave it as it is.. Router should get automatically.

Try to repair the connection by
    Right click & select STATUS
    then,
    select SUPPORT tab
    then,
    click REPAIR - - -> 2 Or 3 times..
It will automatically restore the connection..
    if not,
    In command prompt,
    ipconfig/release
    ipconfig/renew - - ->Some more times...

    I'm working with XP SP2

This way only i'm configuring my connection...

    Currently i'm having

    D-Link Wireless Router DI-524.
Its working fine most of the times..

    I'm Looking for ur reply,

    Dear Imran,
Thanks for ur advice. The D-Link WiFi router has 5 ports on its back (1WAN port + 4 LAN ports). The settings u have provided WORKS ONLY if the LAN cable(white cable) coming out of the Reliance CPE is connected to the LAN port of the D-Link WiFi router. It DOES NOT WORK if the same white LAN cable is connected to the WAN port of the D-Link WiFi router, which is actually the CORRECT way to do the connection.

Kindly let me know how u have connected the LAN cable to the D-Link WiFi router (to LAN port or WAN port).

    Regards,
    Omkar
