Dont know what the issue is here my friend coz your router should be able to login for you and there shouldnt be a problem connecting any number of laptops as long as the router supports that many connections at one time.

I have a sify connection and it requires a loging using thier client and my netgear works just fine and connects one desktop with a cable and one desktop and laptop wirelessly.

The point is, reliance does not have a "login client" software on the pc/laptop.

When you are connected to the modem and enter any URL, you are first redirected to the Reliance broadnet login site and then after entering your credentials you become online.

When I configure the netgear router with the username password it does not seem to work, since I assume the router is looking for a "login client".

I would appreciate, if anyone can throw more light.

cheers.

All I can say is ask the reliance cheap skates to get a client script written it wont even cost them a lot

The good thing is that You being a reliance customer have a say on this forum I know it doesnt help a lot to moan on a forum about something abotu a company but it does make a huge difference when the site you are writing at ranks NO1 for keyword 'reliance broadband'
Write an open letter to reliance and I will make sure this forum stay at number 1 rank on all the major search engines and that will make sure atleast the webmaster who takes care of reliance websites see this crap about reliance... and we hope does something abotu it..

I'm using a wireless router with Broadnet successfully. The problem is that the session timeout on their ADSL modem is 24 hours. That means you'll have to re-login every 24 hours. Very frustrating and annoying. :-/

Cool Wireless/Router Acccess & login script

I have the reliance broadnet in 3 different location for work and home.

And successfully installed the Linksys WRTGL wireless router and a home grown linux based router.

In all cases the WAN (internet) connection is DHCP. On powerup the router acquires the external IP address and DNS information using DHCP. The lan side is using NAT where the subnet is 192.168.1.0. As long this is setup correctly all the computers on lan should theoretically be able to connect to internet.

Reliance connection scheme.
DSL-- > [Modem]< -- DHCP --> [Router] < -- NAT/DHCP --> [Workstations]

Now there is just one more step to connect workstations to the internet. The reliance broadnet connection page. The first workstation wil see this page and has to login. Other workstations wont have to repeat this. It's pretty annoying as the connection times out in 15 minutes. The fucker who thought of this is pure idiot. We have a static ip and need to provide incoming access and the stupid network is timed out.

It is a non standard way of authenticating, no router in the world supports it. The standard ways are PPPoE, PPTP, LT2P, Radius etc. After some digging around I found that the login page is posting "username" and "password" to this url
http://www.reliancebroadband.co.in/user/refresh/home.

So to make a workaround I wrote a script that makes this submit with the reliance username and password. And run it as a cron job every 10 minutes on one of the servers. Now the session never times out and no one has to see the dumb login screen. Of course I use linux machines so it's very easy to do it. If someone is interested I can share the script.

Peace
A

Quick question - How come your connection times out in 15 minutes ? And is this even when there is activity going on ?
Secondly what is your plan ? Business or Individual ?

cheers.

Default Login Page Bypass

The connection times out after inactivity, Sometimes during activity too.
Two plans are business and one is residential.

Hmmm....that is strange. Logically there should not be a timeout if the connection is in use. I have definitely not faced the issue of timeout when the connection is in use.
Have you spoken/written to customer care ?

Is there something we can do ? I would certainly like standard ways of authentication, so that I save my username/password in my wifi router....

I will call customer care and try to find out what they have to say. I will update this post once I do that.

cheers.
